Academicians, student advocate for Arusha declaration

Konrad Adenaeur Stiftung (KAS)
A section of academicians and student organizations in the higher learning institutions have called for the recuperation of Azimio Declaration zeal by 2017.

The academicians expressed their concern saying the zeal should be realised regardless of the political party in power.

The stance came out during a one day symposium for youngsters mid this week from the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Memorial Academy under the guise of ‘Pamoja’ being a friendly family with their counterparts from Germany.

The symposium brought together Konrad Adenaeur Stiftung (KAS) a German organisation and “Pamoja” being a students’ union for intercultural exchange programme between Tanzania and Germany as a preparation for their entourage trip to Europe.

Under the theme “Social Market Economy, Youth and Social Security –Perspectives of the Young Generation in Tanzania and Germany” students were enlightened on the advantages of the Social Market Economy in comparative terms to others like Free Market Economy.

Mr Richard Shaba, the Team Leader at KAS, said it was important to incorporate students from various disciplines to teach them about the important issues the country faced at the global economy.

“We do not live in isolation, we must learn what is going on elsewhere so as to adjust ourselves accordingly,” he said adding that leadership was an important aspect in ensuring that such education is embraced by the majority population”

Opening the Pamoja programme Deus Fidelis, said the project was an umbrella body of students from Tanzania and Germany aims to share the cultural, social political issues in the two countries.
“Leadership and managerial skills are the core values of the programme as it will help students to be constructively in their discussions and decision making” he said.

Presenting a paper on, “Principles of an African Social Market Economy, and Their Application to the Problems of Youth Employments” Dr Camillus Kassala a reputable academician in the country said youth policies on employment, and the implementation of a liberal market economy needed to be looked upon.

He projected that so far youngsters are the most disgruntled population in the country which brings about challenges leading them to becoming the driving force in politics.

“We strongly need to introduce the Arusha declaration zeal after the commemoration of its 50th year anniversary in 2017, he said.
He said the majority of populations were dissatisfied with the current trend of the few benefiting from the country’s resources leaving out the majority in extreme poverty.

“African youth are faced with difficult conditions because they are not fully integrated in their national economies, he said adding that youngsters have aspirations to be rich, to become professionals, to have a family, to be famous, and to become leaders.”

The don insisted that said with the country’s vision 2025 of becoming a middle income status, there is need to focus on aspects of economic prosperity unluckily the country still lack such aspects to be included in the periodic national budget.
