CCM in Slaa, Mnyika murder plot

Tundu Lissu
The major opposition party  Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) yesterday accused the ruling party CCM  of designing a plot to harm some of its members by blowing up a helicopter in Shinyanga municipality back on January 27.

The party’s officials held a press conference yesterday to accuse CCM leaders in the region led by the Deputy Minister for Energy and Minerals, Steven Masele for the plot.

The revelation was made by Martin Zacharia and Sebastian Peter who were members of Chadema and later joined CCM in February this year. The duo ditched CCM again on July 27 this year and bounced back to Chadema.

Before Tundu Lissu , the lead Chadema lawyer,  Zacharia and  Peter  said the ‘plan to kill’ was led by the deputy minister in collaboration with CCM Ideology and Publicity Secretary Nape Nnauye, CCM Secretary General Abdulrahman Kinana and Habibu Machange, who was dismissed from Chadema.

In the deal, the two former CCM members, Martin Zacharia and Sebastian Peter formed part of the plot team.

Now yesterday the two members admitted before the media that they took part in the plot.

The duo which has now returned to Chadema said the plan started in November, where they were promised to be given millions of shillings by CCM if it was successful.

Sebastian Peter, a Ngokolo  councillor (Chadema) told reporters that soon after Zitto Kabwe was suspended from the position of deputy secretary general, the two men were  given a deal  to blow up the helicopter.

He said they were told to provide details concerning the arrival of the Chadema helicopter in Shinyanga district.

“In January, Machange called me and said Masele wanted to give us a deal worth Sh180m.

Then Maselle called me and asked me to make a conversation with people who were in the helicopter and provide information to him indicating the number of  people who were in that helicopter, its expected arrival time  and place of landing,” he explained.

“…Masele told me that after getting that information he would have prepared a team to blow up the helicopter and that the targeted persons were Chadema General Secretary, Dr. Wilbroad Slaa and Ubungo MP John Mnyika.”
Sebastian explained that before implementing the order he had already feared killing innocent persons.

“That is why I refused to implement the order,” he said.
According to Sebastian, Masele had also decided to involve the District Commissioner for Shinyanga Urban Anna Rose Nyamubi who refused, saying she was not ready to take part in the plan and she also was not ready that the killing to be done in her district.

After the plot failed, the next day Nape arrived in Mwanza and met with Sebastian and Machange  and told them that CCM was disappointed with Chadema’s CC to remove Zitto Kabwe from his position.

“After that Nape while at Karena Hotel in Shinyanga promised us that we will be offered positions of  CCM district secretaries if the plan was successful,” Sebastian affirmed.

“We then flew to Dar es Salaam from Mwanza where we met Mwigulu Nchemba who said we should travel to Dodoma to meet the CCM Secretary General.
When we were in Dodoma, Masele’s driver took us to Kinana’s house located at Uzunguni area where various political topics were discussed,” he narrated further.

Asked why they have said it today instead of January, Sebastian and his colleagues said they couldn’t do so because they were still members of the ruling party, CCM.

Speaking at the conference the top Chadema lawyer told reporters that they will not stop using the helicopter in their programs regardless of the terrorism plan from CCM.

Tundu Lissu called upon the police to investigate the terrorism plan by CCM.
Rang up for comment, CCM Ideological and  Publicity Secretary Nape Nnauye said he has heard of the accusations from the opposition party, adding that he would be making a statement later today.
