The Guardian newspaper Investigative Journalist, Dickson Ng’hily is among the 28 finalists nominated for the 2014 CNN Multichoice African Journalist Awards scheduled for October 18th this year in Dar es Salaam.
According to a CNN press release issued in Dar es Salaam on Friday evening, this year; the competition received entries from 38 countries across the continent, including French and Portuguese speaking African countries.
Ng’hily joins 28 other finalists from 10 countries in Africa following his two articles on agribusiness as well as the Sh411bn annual lose due to Dar traffic jams, which were published by The Guardian on August 27 2013, December 31 2013 respectively.
Announcing the finalists, Chairperson of the independent judging panel Ferial Haffajee said: “2013 was a huge news year, and the stories from our continent set a global agenda. The judges were pleased with the quality of entries, and were impressed by the depth of specialist beat reporting. In addition, they noted the growing sophistication of the use of images and pictures across all platforms.”
The competition is once again supported by the following sponsors, who continue to lend their valuable support to the awards: The IPP Media, Tanzania; Coca-Cola Company; Ecobank; GE Africa; Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) and A24 Media.
The host for the evening is CNN International anchor and correspondent Isha Sesay, host of ‘CNN NewsCenter’.
"This is a big honour not only to me personally but to the entire IPP Media and to the country as I am the only Tanzanian journalist on the list," Ng’hily said yesterday after he read the press release on the list of the finalists.
The Guardian on Sunday Managing Editor Rodgers Luhwago congratulated Ng’hily on his nomination.
"On behalf of The Guardian Limited as well as the IPP Media staff in general, I congratulate Ng’hily for his nomination as one of the finalists,” he said.
