Jambo festival to feature unique shows

Countdown for the third-edition of the Arusha International Festival for Arts and Culture has began.
The three-year-old Jambo festival has been promoting traditional African arts and culture as its main focus.
Slated for Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th October, 2014 in  the  northern safari capital, Arusha, this year’s carnival is expected  to feature new and unique shows.
Organized by Idea Africa, the 2014 festival will have  major makeover compared to its predecessors all of which, focused in setting new standards and levels.
“Unlike the past events, Jambo festival 2014 will prominently feature live, music concerts each evening or night of the festival,” says Augustine Namfua the organizing committee chairman.
With performances from both local and internationally renowned artists the festival is expected to be a crowd puller and a real boost to the vendors, sponsors and the entire festival.
“Music is another form of art, and at Jambo festival, we are dedicated to advocate love, peace and unity through ” Mr Namfua explains, adding: “A well-lit and secure venue, arts exhibitions and food availability guarantee the long stays of the visiting crowds”.
Arusha is dubbed the ‘NyamaChoma Hometown’ and it is with this reality barbeque stalls have been introduced to attract visitors to the festival for exhibitors, performers and most importantly the sponsors.
“Like the previous two events this year’s festival will also have artisan’s market, loads of traditional dances (ngomas), a street parade, and the fashion event --the Jambo fashion affair”, he noted.
Jambo fashion affair has become the premier event for designers to showcase their products in Northern Tanzania after the successful two editions in 2012 and 2013.
 With at least eight designers who will showcase an array of African trends, designs and styles on the Saturday night at the Mount Meru hotel alongside with selected Jewelers to sparkle up the event.
The carnival will have at least two international performing artists; for the first time in Arusha where the beauty of a fashion will be intertwined with an international concert.
The artists will continue to perform till the late hours after the fashion show.
The third-edition will also be held at the new and more spacious Nane Nane grounds in Njiro, nearly three kilometres southeast of Arusha.
According to Mr. Namfua, the new ground is spacious – suitable for parking, secure, purposely designed for events, reliable power sources and back up in case of emergency.
